Four talented and very capable artists compose the rock band Independent Idols, who craft melodic, hook-laden rock and roll gems with enough edge to appease the rock gods, yet accessible enough for even your parents to appreciate. Independent Idols is one of those bands that in the future, fans will be fond of saying they knew "back when those guys were first starting out."
The rock influences of singer Joey Taylor transcend his strong, heart-felt vocals and dynamic stage presence. Bassist Dan Morissey's bountiful energy, coupled with his extensive rock resume, give rise to memorable and catchy bass lines that stick to you like a good meal. Drummer Tony Myers holds it all down with powerful, driving percussion, with great feel for subtle arrangements as well. Finally, guitarist Todd Michael's exhilarating guitar licks leave many mouths agape at every performance, and provides the primary sonic source and body behind Independent Idols' music.
Forming in 2000, Independent Idols (known then as Childhood) has endured personal changes and a public's changing taste towards bubble-gum pop and Top 40 rap, to re-emerge in 2005, polished, balanced, and as entertaining as ever, with two full-length recordings under their belt (and another underway). Independent Idols' performance experience is abundant on many levels, from local engagements, to regional performances, and finally, national exposure. Independent Idols has opened for national acts, played music conventions, and appeared on television as well. This band has not gone unnoticed. In the spring of 2004, Independent Idols licensed a song for the television program "Party of Five". The song is featured on the first season box set.
Independent Idols believes writing and performing all original music affords the band opportunities not typically available to those who choose simply to imitate the compositions of others. Well-written original music is the very essence and life-blood of rock music. It enables the transformative power and beauty of music to be expressed by musicians passionate (or crazy) enough to want to share their music with the world. As entertainment goes, this band delivers the complete package, bringing the collective rock experience, and effervescent child-like energy of four passionate musicians who dare to share their love and dedication to rock and roll with the public.
One thing that many bands struggle with is explaining to others "their sound." With Independent Idols, it's a simple explanation, really. We ROCK! But to make things a bit more clear to the layman, if you took the melodic hooks of The Goo Goo Dolls, and perhaps added a cup of Collective Soul, and a dash of Foo Fighters, then you are left with a perfect concoction that tastes pretty close to what Independent Idols are all about. The industry likes to call what we play "power pop." Years ago, it was called "hard rock." Whatever the hell you want to call it, we think it rocks, and we hope that you think it rocks too!
